State of the UCP Ecosystem: March 2026
A data-driven look at the Universal Commerce Protocol ecosystem in March 2026: 81 listings, 51 live endpoints, and what the adoption curve looks like.
The Snapshot
UCPList tracks 81 listings across the UCP ecosystem as of early March 2026. Two months after the protocol launched, here's where things stand.
| Category | Count |
|---|---|
| Merchants | 57 |
| Developer Tools | 12 |
| Platforms | 6 |
| Payment Handlers | 6 |
| Total | 81 |
By UCP status:
| Status | Count | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Live | 51 | Verified active UCP endpoint |
| Ecosystem | 20 | Participant in the protocol, no direct endpoint |
| Announced | 10 | Public commitment, not yet live |
51 live endpoints is meaningful. That's 51 places an AI agent can actually call today and complete a purchase.
Merchant Adoption
57 merchants in the directory. 51 with verified live UCP endpoints.
The live merchants skew toward direct-to-consumer brands: footwear, apparel, home goods, electronics. These are companies that control their own checkout stack and can ship protocol changes without going through a platform.
The announced-but-not-live group is different. Target, Walmart, Wayfair, and Etsy have all signaled UCP support. When these ship, the scale shifts fast. Target and Walmart alone represent a massive surface area for agentic commerce.
Shopify's role here matters. Millions of merchants run on Shopify. When Shopify ships native UCP support, those merchants get UCP endpoints without writing a line of code. That's the platform multiplier: 6 platforms in the directory, but their reach is much larger than 6.
Developer Tools
12 tools in the developer-tools category: validators, SDKs, test suites, generators.
The official UCP Validator and Checker on this site handle endpoint validation. There are at least three independent SDKs across Python, JavaScript, and Go. Test fixtures for the full capability set exist.
The tooling is functional. Gaps: there's no standard monitoring solution for production UCP endpoints, no hosted sandbox environment, and debugging across the capability layers (checkout, identity-linking, order-management, payment-token-exchange) still requires assembling your own test setup.
Payment Handler Coverage
6 payment handlers: Stripe, Adyen, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and one more.
Payment handler support is where the protocol gets real. A merchant can expose a UCP endpoint, but if their payment processor doesn't support UCP's token exchange spec, the checkout flow breaks. Native processor support removes that dependency.
Stripe's position matters most for developers. Stripe powers a large share of the live UCP merchants. When Stripe ships a native UCP payment handler, the integration complexity for new merchants drops significantly.
What the Adoption Curve Looks Like
January: Protocol spec published. First implementations from early contributors.
February: First wave of merchant implementations. Shopify integration announced. Validator tooling shipped.
March: 51 live endpoints. Cross-chain SDKs. This directory.
The growth is bottom-up. Individual developers and DTC brands moved first, not the large retailers. That's a healthy pattern, it means the protocol has real developer pull, not just enterprise announcement cycles.
The inflection point will be platform-level shipping. Shopify going live + one major retailer (Target or Walmart) shipping a verified endpoint would shift the narrative from "early adopter protocol" to "the standard."
What We're Watching
Big retailer launches. Target and Walmart live endpoints would be the biggest ecosystem news since launch.
Shopify merchant rollout. When Shopify ships native UCP at scale, the merchant count changes by an order of magnitude.
Payment processor depth. Native token exchange support from Stripe or Adyen simplifies merchant integration.
Agent-side adoption. More live merchants means more reason for AI shopping agents to implement UCP as a commerce channel. This list should be growing.
We update the directory continuously. If your project is missing, submit it or open a PR.
