Costco Wholesale is the third-largest retailer in the world by revenue, operating over 870 warehouse clubs across 14 countries. Its membership model gives 130 million members access to bulk pricing on groceries, electronics, appliances, and more. Costco has announced exploratory work on UCP integration.
The Costco UCP use case is distinct from typical retail. Most Costco purchases are bulk quantities of household staples, pantry goods, and recurring supplies. This maps well to the replenishment agent use case: an AI agent that knows a household's consumption patterns can automate Costco reorders when inventory runs low. The agent queries the UCP catalog for current pricing, initiates checkout, and the order ships to the member's registered address.
Membership verification is the central complexity. Costco's pricing is exclusive to members, and every checkout requires a valid membership token. The UCP Identity Linking implementation must carry Costco membership credentials into agent-initiated sessions. Non-member agents would be blocked at checkout, consistent with how Costco operates today.
Costco Business Center serves small business procurement. A B2B agent that manages restaurant or office supply purchasing could automate restocking from Costco at business-member pricing, removing the manual ordering step entirely.
