Tamara
AnnouncedLeading MENA buy-now-pay-later provider operating in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, building UCP payment support for AI agent checkout across the region.
Tamara has announced plans to support UCP as a participant. No public endpoint is available yet.
Tamara is the largest buy-now-pay-later provider in the Middle East and North Africa, with a primary focus on Saudi Arabia and the UAE. It serves millions of consumers and thousands of merchants including SHEIN, IKEA, Noon, and Jarir. Tamara has announced plans to add UCP payment token exchange as agent commerce expands in the MENA region.
MENA is a high-growth market for agentic commerce. Smartphone penetration is high, digital payment adoption is accelerating, and BNPL usage is growing faster in the region than in comparable Western markets. Tamara's UCP integration is designed to make its installment product available in agent-initiated checkout flows without requiring consumers to re-apply at each merchant.
Tamara's implementation follows the standard UCP payment token model. Consumers pre-authorize a Tamara token on their agent platform. When the agent initiates checkout at a Tamara-accepting merchant, the token is presented and the payment decision is made instantly. This removes the redirect-to-Tamara flow that currently exists in conventional BNPL checkout.
For merchants in the MENA region looking to participate in UCP, Tamara is a critical payment handler to support. Its consumer base and merchant relationships make it the default BNPL option for agent commerce in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Why This Matters for UCP
Tamara brings MENA's leading BNPL product into UCP agent checkout, enabling installment payments for agent-initiated purchases across Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

The UCP payment handling is correct. Latency is a bit higher than our non-UCP flows, but still within acceptable bounds for checkout.

Used this to add UCP checkout support to our app. The spec compliance is exact — everything we tested against the conformance suite passed.

Payment token exchange is solid. We process UCP transactions across multiple merchants and have not hit any protocol-level issues in three months.
